How does facial recognition work?
Does it work with makeup?
At times, technology such as Face ID seems like magic. You take one look at a device and BAM, you’re in. But this begs a question: How exactly does this work? How safe is it that your device knows what you look like? Today, we’re going deep into how exactly facial recognition technology works. Hop on!
Facial Recognition isn’t that new

A team led by Woodrow W Bledoe ran experiments in 1964 to see if computers could be programmed to recognize human faces. They were greatly limited by the technology of the time. It wasn’t until the late 80’s that a novel approach led by Sirovich and Kirby in 1988 began applying linear algebra to solve this issue.
In 1991, Turk and Pentland built upon the work of Sirovich and Kirby by developing a method for detecting faces within an image. This was one of the earliest examples of automatic facial recognition. Despite facing technological and environmental challenges, this breakthrough paved the way for future advancements in facial recognition technology.
